Irish Brown Soda Bread
Fresh and nutritious, nothing smells better nor tastes more delicious than fresh brown bread.
Irish Brown Soda Bread Ingredients
- 2 1/2 (10 oz) cups of plain flour
- pinch of salt
- 1 cup (6 oz) of wholemeal flour
- 1/2 teaspoon breadsoda
- 1 1/4 cups (1/2 pint) of buttermilk or sour milk
Preparing and Baking Your Irish Brown Soda Bread
Cooking time approximately 40-45 minutes. Oven position - top. Oven temperature 400°F.
Lightly flour a baking sheet. Sieve flour and salt into a bowl, and add the wholemeal and baking soda. Make a well in the centre and add almost all the milk; mix to a loose dough. If necessary add more milk. Turn onto a floured board and knead for fieve minutes until smooth. Shape dough into a circular shape; make cross-cut on surface and place on floured baking sheet, put into the oven. Bake at 400° for 40 to 45 minutes. When baked, place on wire rack to cool.
